Watercolour Painting of Blyth's Hornbill

This is a watercolour painting of a couple of Blyth's Hornbill. These birds could be found in the forest of New Guinea (West Papua and Papua New Guinea), Bismark islands and Solomon islands as well as Halmahera and Seram islands. They are big birds. In West Papua, local people call them Taun-taun. The male has got yellowish brown neck whereas the female got plain black wing, neck and back feather. Both male and female have got white feather.
When they fly, their wings generate whooshing noise. Some tribes in West Papua consider Taun-taun Bird as the symbol of love. Hornbill is often seen flying over the canopy of rainforest as a couple. However, if one of them dies, the other one that is still alive will fly and live alone for the rest of his or her own life.
