When I lived in Manokwari, I often guided tourists to Susguakti forest. There we watched male Lesser Birds of Paradise dancing in the morning to attract their female partners for mating. We had to wake up early in the morning at around 05:00 to make preparation. After that we had to walk for around 15 to 20 minutes to the watching site. When we arrived the sun was about to rise in the east. That's the time when some Lesser Birds of Paradise gather at the dancing site for mating.
Although the lek of these birds is located at steep slope, we were determined to reach it. When we saw the paradise birds danced, all our struggles paid off. Usually the dance and mating performance ended at around 08:30 to 09:00. We could return to our basecamp for rest.
