The mountain range of Arfak is located in the south of Manokwari city. It is a famous destination for visitors who love nature. Tropical rainforest that covers Arfak is the habitat of various kinds of plants and animals.
The most important habitat for endemic plants and animals is the cloud forest around the top of Arfak mountains.

Visitors who are interested in taking a trekking tour to the top could take this tour. Participants need to be physically fit in order to reach the top of the mountains. The temperature at the top is very cold due to strong wind. So, participants need to wear thick clothing.
Usually, the trip to the top of Arfak mountains is combined with village tour to see the daily activities of local people, what they plant and eat and the traditional tools which they in their kitchen and farmlands.
There is a basecamp in NNAM forest of Arfak mountains that has been built as accommodation for tourists. The basecamp is made of wood, tree bark and rattan. The basecamp is located in high elevation area of the rainforest which is the natural habitat of such birds as Vogelkop Bowerbird, Magnificent Bird of Paradise. There are a lot of species of insects including the Tithonus birdwing butterfly.

Unique plants such as rhododendron, giant banana tree, tree fern and pitcher plant could be seen in NNAM forest.
There are caves in forest of Arfak mountains. Visitors who are interested in the cave could explore one of them in NNAM forest. In general, the duration for trekking, sightseeing and wildlife watching in could forest of Arfak mountains is 4 days/ 3 nights. Here is a brief description of the tour:
ITINERARY
Day 1
Transfer by 4wd car from Manokwari city to Mbenti village. Village tour to see local villagers in their daily life.
Day 2
Hiking for 1 hour to basecamp in NNAM forest located in higher elevation area of Arfak range. Watch birds such as Vogelkop Bowerbird, Magnificent Bird of Paradise, Elfin Myzomela. There are also birdwing butterflies that could be watched in NNAM forest.
Day 3
Trekking to the top of Mount Indon which the highest peak of Arfak Mountains. For participants who could not do the strenuous trekking trip to the top of the mountains, they can do alternative activities such as bird watching, insect watching or visiting one of the caves.
Day 4
Watching traditional dance that are performed by local villagers.
