Snorkeling in Manokwari

I often receive questions from visitors who ask whether there is snorkeling sites in Manokwari. My answer is YES. Manokwari has got a number of coral reef sites which visitors can choose to enjoy snorkeling.
Lemon Damsel
Tourists need to bring their own masks, snorkel and swimfins if they want to see fish, and other marine life at sea. For safety reason, I have got some lifejackets which tourists can use if they take snorkeling tour with me.
To take pictures underwater, I usually bring my digital camera Fujifilm XQ2 and its waterproof housing.
Black Bar Damsel
There are a lot of fish that can be seen underwater such as Red and Black Anemonefish, Spine-cheek Anemonefish, Three-spots Dascyllus, Pink Anemonefish, Parrotfish, Striped Surgeonfish, Convict Surgeonfish, Black-bar Damsel, Redfin Butterflyfish, Moorish Idol, and a lot more.
Anemone fish
There are also sea cucumber, sea star, sea urchin, and burrowing clam. Sometimes, I have to do freediving to a depth of 2 to 5 meters to take the pictures of the fish and other marine animals. Because of buoyancy force on my body, I often have to hold a hard coral to make myself stable. I like to stay a little bit more than 1 minute in the water without making many movements. When I am calm, fish will not be afraid of me. When they swim closer to me, I can make a lot of beautiful pictures of them.

First, visitors need to take a flight from their country to Jakarta which is the capital of Republic of Indonesia. After that, they can fly to Manokwari city. There are airlines in this country that provide daily regular flight service to Manokwari. Some of them include Garuda, Batik Air, Sriwijaya, and NAM Air.
