Red-knobbed Hornbill

Here is the photograph of a male Red-knobbed Hornbill that I saw in the forest of Tangkoko Nature Reserve.
Red-knobbed Hornbill (Rhyticeros cassidix)

The bird was, perhaps, delivering food for his female partner that was incubating their eggs.
In Sulawesi island, I saw this bird in Karaenta, Lore Lindu, Tangkoko and Tambun.  The red crest of the male bird looks like the helmet of a Roman soldier from the ancient time.
The easiest spot to watch Knobbed Hornbill is Temboan hill at the edge of Tangkoko forest. In the mornings and in late afternoons, visitors could see several Knobbed Hornbill fly over or sit on the branches of trees below the hill.
In addition to the Knobbed Hornbill, visitors could see other birds such as Sulawesi Dwarf Hornbill, Green Imperial Pigeon, Gray-cheeked Green Pigeon, Black-naped Oriole, Sulawesi Hanging Parrot, Pygmy Hanging Parrot, Minahasa Racket-tail, Golden-mantled Racket-tail, Sulawesi Serpent Eagle, Finch-billed Myna, Sulawesi Crow, Channel-billed Cuckoo, and a lot more.
Most birdwatchers spend around 3 to 4 days in Tangkoko after their trip to Tomohon town in Minahasa highland where they watch birds in Mount Mahawu, Lake Linow, Lake Tondano, and Sonder (Lalek Farm Forest, Tincep's Waterfall, Tincep's Rice Field, Tounelet Slope, and Sonder Hill Forest).
More endemic bird of Sulawesi could be watched in high elevation forest of Minahasa highland. There are Sulawesi Myzomela, Sulawesi Blue Flycatcher, Yellow-sided Flowerpecker, Crimson-crowned Flowerpecker, Pygmy Woodpecker, Pygmy Hanging Parrot, Sulawesi Pitta, Red-eared Fruit-dove and etc.
Water birds could easily be watched in Lake Tondano and the Volcanic Lake Linow. Birds that could be seen in these lakes include: Purple Heron, Javan Pond Heron, Cattle Egret, Little Egret, White-breasted Waterhen, Pied Stilt, Black Kite, Brahminy Kite, Whiskered Tern, Sunda Teal, Barred Rail, Buff-banded Rail, Collared Kingfisher, Dusky Moorhen and a lot more.
The birding experience of visitors will be greatly enhanced in Lake Linow and Lake Tondano if they bring spotting scope that is mounted on a tripod.
Birdwatcher who want to watch Great-billed Kingfisher cannot find it in these lakes. They need to go to coastal area of Tangkoko or the mangrove forest in North Minahasa Regency such as the Naun River.
